Grand Opening of FIFA Museum in Hong Kong, Football Icon Marco Materazzi Joins Celebration of the Glorious Game

Marking its first entry into East Asia, the FIFA Museum celebrated its grand opening in Hong Kong today. The event featured the premiere of a new special exhibition, presented in collaboration with Asia Partners, dedicated to celebrating every facet of ‘The Beautiful Game’. The six-month showcase at Times Square in Causeway Bay brings the magic of football to East Asia in time of the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Guest of honour, 2006 FIFA World Cup™ winner Marco Materazzi was joined at the officiating ceremony by Mr. Marco Fazzone, Managing Director of the FIFA Museum, Mr Charles Cheung, General Secretary of the Football Association of Hong Kong, China, Mr. Filipe Gonçalves, Chairman of Asia Partners and Mr. Calim Bouhadra, Chief Executive Officer of Asia Partners.

A spectacular showcase of the global game’s rich heritage, the FIFA Museum Hong Kong brings football’s story to life through an inspirational curation of historic moments and original objects from iconic players including Pelé (Brazil), Diego Maradona (Argentina), Sun Wen (China), Zinedine Zidane (France), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Son Heung-min (South Korea), Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Alex Morgan (USA), Alexia Putellas (Spain), and Saki Kumagai (Japan).

Visitors are invited on an immersive journey through the history of the world’s most popular sport, presented across eight exhibition zones. The showcase pays tribute to iconic FIFA World Cup™ moments and landmark FIFA Women’s World Cup™ achievements, tracing the origins and evolution of the tournament itself. Highlights include rare artefacts such as the 1938 FIFA World Cup™ medals, the first official FIFA mascot Willie, and the original vinyl recording of “Un’Estate Italiana”, the inaugural FIFA World Cup™ official song.

Additional highlights include a dedicated FIFA World Cup™ Balls display, showcasing the evolution of every official match ball from 1970 to the present day. Complemented by original artefacts, prestigious trophies, immersive multimedia installations, and compelling narratives curated by the FIFA Museum, the exhibition offers an authoritative and captivating perspective on the innovation, design, and storytelling that have shaped the world’s greatest sporting tournament.
