Hong Kong Cancer Fund Launches ‘Pink Revolution 2025’ with New Ambassador Charmaine Sheh Ensure Women to Stay Aware of their Breast Health
Public Encouraged to Join ‘Dress Pink Day’ on 24 Oct and ‘Shop for Pink’ Month to Show Support and Spread Love and Care
The Hong Kong Cancer Fund today launched its annual “Pink Revolution 2025” campaign with an kickoff ceremony at Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong. This marks the beginning of the city’s largest and most comprehensive breast cancer awareness campaign.
The ceremony was officiated by Ms. Charmaine Sheh, this year’s newly appointed Pink Ambassador; Mrs. Sally Lo, Founder and Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund; and Dr. Janice Tsang, Specialist in Medical Oncology, Executive Committee Member and Medical Advisor at the Hong Kong Cancer Fund. Ms. May Yeung, a breast cancer survivor and art programme instructor at the Cancer Fund, shared her personal journey to offer encouragement.
Confronting Breast Cancer in Hong Kong
According to the latest statistics from the Hong Kong Cancer Registry, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in Hong Kong, with nearly 5,000 new cases diagnosed in 2022. Since its establishment in 2000, the Pink Revolution campaign has served as a vital platform for breast health education while raising essential funds to support the Cancer Fund’s FREE professional services for patients and survivors.
This year’s campaign delivers a crucial public health message: “Don’t wait for the alarm. Check Regularly.” Medical experts emphasize that breast cancer often develops without obvious warning signs, making regular self-examinations and professional screenings essential for early detection, which significantly improves treatment outcomes.
New Pink Ambassador Charmaine Sheh’s Advocacy
The Cancer Fund is honoured to welcome renowned actress Charmaine Sheh as its new Pink Ambassador. In her role, Charmaine emphasised the importance of breast health awareness: “As women, we frequently prioritise caring for others over our own wellbeing. This campaign serves as an important reminder that we must make time to care for ourselves too. With one in fourteen Hong Kong women facing breast cancer in their lifetime, regular check-ups are not just advisable – they’re absolutely essential.”
A Survivor’s Journey: May Yeung’s Story
Ms. May Yeung, who received her breast cancer diagnosis at a young age, shared how the Cancer Fund’s support enabled her to preserve fertility before undergoing chemotherapy. Now a mother to a healthy two-year-old son, May’s experience highlights the importance of comprehensive care that addresses both immediate treatment needs and long-term life planning for younger patients.
Comprehensive Free Support Services
The Hong Kong Cancer Fund provides the city’s only completely free, holistic support programme for breast cancer patients. Their professional team including oncology nurses, social workers, art therapists, dietitians and clinical psychologists offers continuous guidance throughout every stage of the cancer journey, from diagnosis through treatment and recovery.
Through public donations of HK$170, supporters can fund Pink Recovery Packs for breast cancer patients. These packs contain valuable information and resources to aid postoperative rehabilitation and overall wellbeing. As a token of appreciation, donors will receive an exclusive Pink Phone Waist Strap, available while stocks last.
Community Participation Opportunities
The campaign invites widespread public involvement through several initiatives. On Friday, 24 October, the annual Dress Pink Day will see participants across Hong Kong wearing pink attire to demonstrate solidarity with breast cancer patients and survivors. Supporters are encouraged to share their participation on social media platforms using the campaign hashtag #PinkRevolution2025. More Details:www.dresspinkday.com
