Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and organized by the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), the Jockey Club Sports PLUS Elite Athletes Community Programme, will hold its annual roving exhibition titled “The HKSI – Home of Champions” from tomorrow until October. All citizens are welcome to visit and learn about the daily training routines of elite athletes and their sporting achievements by “walking into the HKSI”.

This year’s exhibition features a unique comic-style design theme, aiming to showcase different facets of the HKSI in an innovative way, allowing the public to see a different side of the institute. The Sports Institute is not only a training ground where elite athletes sweat day and night, but also a place that takes care of their physical and mental well-being, rendering a home to many. Participants will engage in a dynamic and immersive experience. While understanding the daily life of local elite athletes, they can also get a glimpse the state-of-the-art training and sports science facilities that establish the HKSI as a nurturing ground for sports elites.

The roving exhibition will visit four spots over four months from mid-July to October as the city builds up to the historic first ever hosting of the 15th National Games this November, and the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games of the People’s Republic of China this December.

“The HKSI – Home of Champions” Roving Exhibition will kick off tomorrow (16th) and run until 22 July at the Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo, coinciding with the Hong Kong Book Fair. The second phase is scheduled to move to MOSTown at Ma On Shan from 22 to 31 August, while the third phase will take place at Maritime Square at Tsing Yi from 10 to 14 September. The date and location for the final stop will be announced later.

“The HKSI – Home of Champions” Roving Exhibition Immersive Experience

This roving exhibition will offer the public a lively and engaging experience through various interactive games, DIY workshops, photo spots, and comic-style immersive scenes. The 15th National Games, alongside the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games of the People’s Republic of China, will take place this November and December. As Hong Kong joins as one of the host cities, the atmosphere is increasingly vibrant. To rally support for Hong Kong athletes, one of the highlights of the exhibition will be a large cheering net displaying the Chinese characters “加油” (which means “Cheer On” in English). Citizens will have the opportunity to write encouraging messages and blessings for Hong Kong athletes and hang them on the net. The HKSI will collect and deliver these messages to the athletes who will compete in the Games this November and December.

In addition, visitors can showcase their skills at the “Training Base” on site, experience table tennis and rowing, and getting a taste of what it is like to train as an elite athlete!

A ‘Creative Sports Luggage Keychain’ parent-child workshop will be held at scheduled times during the first exhibition. Now in the third year of the programme, it continues to emphasise the “PLUS” in sports by facilitating opportunities for Hong Kong elite athletes to interact with the community, share their inspirational life stories, promote the value of sports participation and spread positive energy throughout the community.

Through these community exhibitions, the programme also aims to raise public support for the athletes of Team Hong Kong.

The adventure begins from the very first step as guests enter the exhibition through an archway that adapts the signature design profile of the main building at the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
Following an elite athletes’ typical daily routine, the exhibition opens in a simulated dorm room at HKSI where visitors can learn more about how the city’s elite athletes balance their daily training and school schedules, and the support available to them at the HKSI.
The exhibition also highlights the HKSI’s elite training technologies and sports medicine team, showcasing how they provide science-based, athlete-centered elite training support services while also focusing on the mental and physical health of the elite athletes.
Besides daily training, elite athletes must maintain a proper diet to elevate their skills to the highest level. Visitors can learn about the dietary needs of different athletes through interactive games and information provided by the HKSI’s nutrition experts.
The exhibition showcases various medals won at the World Championships, Asian Championships, and other major international competitions.
