A panoramic exhibition of contemporary art about China, on view in two chapters from 26 Sep 2025 to 4 Jan 2026 and 27 Feb to 31 May 2026. Presenting more than 70 contemporary artists whose works explore social changes in twenty-first-century China and their impacts globally.
Tai Kwun Contemporary is pleased to announce Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008, a panoramic exhibition comprising two chapters. Curated by Dr. Pi Li, Head of Art, and Ying Kwok, Senior Curator, Stay Connected present artists who explore changes in the social realities of twenty-first-century China and the wider world. The exhibitions will be on view across three floors of the JC Contemporary galleries.
Beginning with Stay Connected: Navigating the Cloud (26 Sep 2025 to 4 Jan 2026) and continuing in Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe (27 Feb to 31 May 2026), the two chapters are framed through the lenses of digital technology and the manufacturing supply chain, respectively, to portray the diversity of current artistic practices.
The first chapter, Stay Connected: Navigating the Cloud, focuses on the transformations in contemporary art practices and in society brought on by the spread of the internet and digital technologies. Chapter two, Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe, re-examines China’s role as the world’s centre for production and logistics through contemporary perspectives on the environment, labour, social status and community relationships.
Stay Connected: Navigating the Cloud showcases artists whose innovative and alternative practices reflect the integration of the internet, social media platforms and digital technologies into all aspects of daily life. More than 50 artworks will be presented in eight thematic sections that highlight subjects including information bubbles, artificial intelligence, communities formed through the internet and the changing nature of human labour with the use of digital technologies. These sections guide the audience to reflect on how we can overcome boundaries and divisions in order to “stay connected” in a world where the digital and physical realms are already
inseparable.
Among more than 35 artists and groups included in the show are Li Shuang, Li Yi-Fan, Miao Ying, Wong Ping, the collaborative duo Sun Yuan & Peng Yu, and the collective Xijing Men. Tai Kwun Contemporary also presents commissioned artworks by Lu Yang, Shao Chun and Zhang Yibei.
Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008 is made possible with core funding provided by The Hong Kong Jockey Club through its Charities Trust as one of Tai Kwun’s arts and heritage programmes. The Lead Patron is Hawk HE – Octone Foundation.
Along with two interconnected chapters, Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008 encompasses cross-disciplinary activities, including video screenings, curatorial talks, learning and engagement programmes, and the launch of a companion publication produced in collaboration with Asia Art Archive (Hong Kong).
