Master Dahan’s Solo Exhibition Makes a Grand Debut in Hong Kong
The highly anticipated solo exhibition of monk artist Master Dahan, “Great Kindness Unbounded,” made its remarkable debut in Hong Kong on 26 November 2024. Held at the prestigious SKY100 in the International Commerce Centre, the event attracted an esteemed crowd and marked a significant milestone in the artist’s illustrious career.




The evening began with a combined media and VIP preview, followed by an exclusive dinner. The event was attended by prominent figures from the art world and notable celebrities, including socialite Yvette Yung, artists Chris Lai Lok Yi and Alina Li, feng shui master Dr. Lee Shing Chak, and Memorigin founder William Shum. Their presence added to the glamour and significance of the event, highlighting the wide-reaching appeal of Master Dahan’s work.
The exhibition features Master Dahan’s latest masterpieces from various series, including the Herbal Medicine Series, Landscape Series, and Abstract Series. These works reflect his deep meditative practice and unique artistic interpretations of the natural world, human existence, and the universe. The opening ceremony was a testament to his profound understanding of art, Buddhism, and the interconnectedness of all things.




Master Dahan, who has received the Prix d’honneur at Le Salon des Beaux Arts (honorary prize at the French Fine Arts Fair) and was invited to the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts (Paris International Art Salon), continues to captivate audiences worldwide with his innovative and thought-provoking creations. His previous accolades include exhibitions in London, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, and other major cities.
The preview offered an exclusive first look at Master Dahan’s works, guided by the artist himself, who provided insightful commentary on his creative process and the philosophical underpinnings of his art. The event also included speeches by prominent art critics and curators, further enriching the attendees’ experience.
During an interview with the media, Master Dahan shared that his inspiration for new creations often emerges naturally during meditation, and he emphasized the importance of emptiness and relaxation in the creative process. He advised artists to lower their desires, improve their techniques, and remain less attached to outcomes, aligning with the Buddhist perspective that everything is transient and illusory.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to Gaofeng Temple for daily operations.

About Master Dahan
Master Dahan, born Hu Yongpeng in October 1967 in Yong’an City, Fujian Province, is the abbot of Gaofeng Temple, the president of the Deqing Buddhist Association, the director of Gaofeng Painting and Calligraphy Academy, and the co-founder of HAN Space. He began studying painting at a young age, entered an art class at the Children’s Palace at 12, and apprenticed at 16 to refine his skills. At 22, he was admitted to the Department of Oil Painting at East China Normal University, where he studied Western painting. After graduating, he taught at the School of Architecture at Shanghai University, earning deep respect and affection from his students.
In March 2002, Master Dahan formally became a monk at the ancient temple of Shouchang in southern Yandang Mountain, Zhejiang Province. By July 2005, he had moved to Gaofeng Temple in northern Deqing, where he personally oversaw its extensive 14-year renovation, revitalizing the 1,600-year-old temple. He leads his disciples in self-sufficient farming and labor, balancing monastic duties and artistic endeavors.
Master Dahan has consistently used his art to promote Buddhism and make art accessible to the public, benefiting all beings. His works have been exhibited and collected widely, with notable collectors including Mr. and Mrs. Thomas-Hermès from France.
