The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) today (24/1) welcomes Angela Yuen as the Ambassador for the 49th edition of its festival (HKIFF49), which will take place from 10 to 21 April 2025.
Simultaneously, HKIFFS unveils the key visuals for HKIFF49 and the HKIFF Industry Project Market, which will take place earlier during the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) from 17 to 19 March 2025.
A Hong Kong Film Awards and Taipei Golden Horse Awards best actress nominee in 2023 for her stunning performance in The Narrow Road, Angela Yuen follows Karena Lam’s footsteps in becoming HKIFFS’s Ambassador. She said she was overcome with emotions when she received the invitation.
“I was thrilled and nervous all at once,” Yuen said. “The festival is one of Hong Kong’s most iconic cultural events, and I am honoured to be its ambassador.”
Yuen recognises that the role comes with a unique responsibility. “I must dedicate myself to promoting HKIFF49, introducing and sharing as many quality films from around the world with the audience as I can,” she said.
Meanwhile, for the second consecutive edition, the Hong Kong-based design firm Trilingua Design has created the key visuals for HKIFF49 and the HKIFF Industry Project Market, ensuring a cohesive theme and style.
The central concept behind this year’s key visuals is Dialogue – Conversation of Film.
“While cinema is primarily a visual medium, sound is also vital,” the Trilingua team explained. “Memorable dialogues can encapsulate a character, a story, and even an entire film. As such, our design this year incorporates famous dialogues from world cinema, aiming to evoke fond memories and resonate with the audience.”
In line with this concept, HKIFF Industry Project Market’s key visual this year features audio waveform as part of the design, symbolising viewers’ exchange and communication.
